Buys on the way down. Sells on the way back up.
DipGrid bots buy US stocks when they drop and sell when they bounce back, while you're at work. Grid trades a ladder of prices, over and over. DCA buys more at each step down and sells the lot above your average price. Both trade on your own brokerage account from our servers, 24/5.

Made-up prices, one share per level. Move the sliders: the same prices replay with your step and budget. A wider step trades less often; a smaller budget runs out sooner.

What the bot does
You pick a stock and a step, say $2. The bot places limit buy orders below the current price, one on each level. When a buy fills, it places a sell for those shares one step higher. When that sell fills, the buy goes back on its level. It repeats this for as long as the price moves up and down inside your range.
- You choose everything
- The stock, the price range, the step and the budget. We don't tell you what to buy.
- Its own budget
- Each bot gets an amount of money you set, and doesn't spend more than that.
- After a sell
- By default the profit is set aside, so the budget stays the limit. You can choose to put it back into new buys instead.
- Your hours
- Pick each bot's hours: market hours only, or add pre-market, after-hours and overnight.
- Buys, then sells
- The bot only buys shares and sells the shares it bought. It never sells short. Whole shares only.
- Pause and Stop
- Pause cancels waiting buys and keeps the sells. Stop cancels all the bot's orders and holds it until you start it again: keep your shares, or sell them.
- Also: a DCA bot
- It buys near the current price, then more at steps below if the price keeps falling. When the price rises a set percent above the average price of those shares, it sells them all in one order and starts a new round. There's no stop-loss: in a long fall, it holds the shares and waits.
What it doesn't do: pick stocks, predict prices, or know when a fall will end.
Every order in plain sight
Each bot shows its levels, the orders waiting on them, the shares it holds and every trade it made. Pause and Stop are one tap away, and we write to you when something needs your attention.
How it works
-
Connect your broker
Sign in on your broker's own page and approve access. We never see your broker password. The access lets DipGrid place and cancel orders. It can't move money out.
-
Set up your bot
Pick Grid or DCA, then the stock, the levels and the bot's budget. Before any real money, try it on past prices with Backtest.
-
Let it run
Dips don't wait for 9:30. The bot keeps working on our servers, and every order also shows up in your broker's app, so you can always check what it did.
Try it on made-up prices
Backtest replays your grid on past prices before you risk any money. Here is a small version on three made-up price stories. Pick one and move the step.
- Trades
- 25 buys, 25 sells
- Shares still held at the end
- None
Grid bot: finished trades plus shares still held
+$50
Buy and hold, same $1,000 10 shares bought at $100 on day one
+$12
This is what a grid is built for: the price keeps swinging inside the range.
Illustrative, made-up prices. $1,000 budget, one share per level, levels down to $18 below the start. No fees, taxes or missed fills. Not a forecast and not a result of real trading.
Backtest, free
After you sign up, run your settings on a stock's past prices. It counts the shares you'd still be holding and puts the result next to simply buying and holding. The result is hypothetical, and no orders are sent.
Practice, free
After you sign up, run a bot on market prices with $10,000 of made-up money. No time limit. Orders go through more easily than in a real market, so treat the results as a best case.
Safety
Your money stays with your broker. DipGrid runs as three separate rooms, so a mistake, an outage or a break-in on our side can't reach it. We'll publish full security details before we open.
Swipe the drawing to see all three rooms.
app.dipgrid.com
Where you sign in and change settings. A new phone or computer needs a code from your email to sign in. Emails about risky changes, like a new bot or more money for one, are on from the start, and turning them off sends you an email. The site saves settings and that's all: it can't place orders or read your broker access.
Trading service
A separate program that runs the bots. Your broker access is locked inside it, encrypted, with the key kept apart. Before any order goes out, it's checked:
- the bot's own stock, from an approved list of listed, liquid shares
- within the bot's budget
- not too big for the stock's normal trading, and no sell far below the market
- not too many orders a minute
An order that fails a check isn't sent. If the check points to a fault on our side, we get an alert.
Your broker account
Your cash and shares stay here, in your name. Our access can trade. It can't withdraw or transfer money.
When something goes wrong
The bot is built to protect you first: new buys stop, sells keep working.
| What happens | New buys | Buys already placed | Sells and Stop |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your broker can't be reached | Stop | Stay in place | Keep working |
| Something breaks on our side | Stop | Cancelled | Keep working |
| You pause a bot | Stop | Cancelled | Keep working |
| You stop paying, after 7 days of reminders | Stop | Cancelled | Cancelled |
In every case your shares stay in your account. DipGrid sells only at the prices your grid set, or when you choose Stop and sell — never to close out your shares after a failure or a missed payment.
Who it's for
A good fit if you
- already invest in US stocks and have a brokerage account
- have a stock you're willing to hold through a drop
- want fixed rules, not guesses, placing your orders
- would rather not watch the screen all day
Not a fit if you
- want someone to pick stocks or tell you what to do
- can't afford to lose the money you give the bot
- will need that money soon
- expect a steady income from it
Risks
- A falling stock keeps filling buys. The bot keeps buying down to your lowest level. You can end up holding shares worth much less than you paid.
- Finished trades aren't the whole picture. Sold pairs can show a profit while the shares you still hold are down by more.
- Pausing doesn't undo trades. Filled orders stay filled, and the shares you hold still move with the market.
- Software and connections fail. Orders can be late, missed or rejected, at your broker or on our side.
- Buying on credit adds debt. Bots buy only with your cash, unless you turn on “Allow buying on credit” for a margin account. Then they can buy with borrowed money: you pay interest, and you can lose more than the cash in your account.
- Tests are not results. Backtests and practice mode are hypothetical. Frequent trading also means more taxes to report.
